Discussion about Conrad Schnitzler - Slow Motion
nailer
Back in 1979 we first made contact with Conrad Schnitzler. One of the first things he sent us was the "Slow Motion" cassette (which also came out as the "Black Cassette" issued in the Gallery Block "Work In Progress" box set) later reissued on LP as "Gelb". So, as Gelb was the "Slow Motion" soundtrack, what was this 3-sided LP set going to be? I expected that it may have been just a reissue of the Captain Tip CD. But no, it's something more interesting than that!A curio indeed, this would seem to be the remainder of other tapes intended for this gallery installation work. But first let's get things straight. Now, who said these were 1972 recordings? These are clearly 1974, distinctly the style of that time. The album, although pressed on heavy vinyl is not a very good cut though and pretty low-fi compared to the actual "Gelb" album. Also the 3 sides are segues of several tracks, sometimes with overlaps, sometimes not, and not that logically sequenced. But the music is rather good. Some of it we know versions of already, some we don't, some are different mixes/laminations.Here's an analysis of the pieces...A1. Track A4 on Gelb, different version. 9:27A2. unique track, rhythm with solos (similar to bonus track 2 on Gelb CD). 2:29A3. Track B3 (8) on Gelb, different version. 3:09A4. unique track, synth arpeggio (deep). 2:56B1. unique track, rhythm with scatters. 4:52B2. unique track, ambient bridge. 1:55B3. unique track, scatter pattern arpeggio. 1:01B4. unique track, drones, with B3 repeated twice. 2:00B5. Track A3 on Gelb, cross-faded with tracks before/after. 2:58B6. unique track, ring modulated rhythm with string synth. 2:15C1. unique track, synth solo. 2:04C2. unique track, synth arpeggio (bright). 3:02C3. various themes and solos mixed. 1:52C4. Track B7 (12) on Gelb, different version. 2:24C5. Track B3 (8) on Gelb. 2:30C6. Track A3 on Gelb, different version. 2:28C7. Track B3 (8) on Gelb with solo lead line added. 4:05C8. unique track, ring modulated pulses. 2:35Another LP of similar material was included in the Various - Omicron-Omega box set under the title "Film Music, 1975" which is largely the same material as the Conrad Schnitzler - Filmmusik 1 release. See my one to one comparisons of those on the Filmmusik 1 page.
